Common Symptoms We Can Help With

Cold and flu visits often cover symptoms such as: • Cough • Congestion and runny nose • Sore throat • Fever • Body aches • Fatigue • Headache • Other respiratory illness symptoms Many respiratory illnesses are caused by viruses. According to the CDC, antibiotics do not treat viral infections, so whether antibiotic or antiviral treatment is appropriate depends on your specific symptoms and provider evaluation — it is never guaranteed in advance.

What a Virtual Visit May Include

Your provider will ask about your symptoms, how long you've had them, and whether you have any conditions that put you at higher risk for complications. Treatment recommendations depend on your symptoms, medical history, available examination findings, and provider judgment. For some patients, antiviral treatment may be appropriate — flu antivirals generally work best when started early, within the first day or two of symptoms, so it's worth being seen promptly if you suspect flu.

What Your Provider May Review

Your provider may review your symptoms, temperature history, medical conditions, current medications, and risk factors for complications (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease). They'll use this to decide whether self-care, over-the-counter guidance, prescription treatment, or in-person testing is the right next step — no specific medication or test can be promised ahead of a visit.

When In-Person or Emergency Care May Be Needed

Some conditions may require laboratory testing, imaging, an in-person examination, urgent care, or emergency evaluation. Seek emergency care right away for significant trouble breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure, bluish lips or face, severe or worsening symptoms, signs of severe dehydration, confusion, or a fever that won't respond to treatment.

Virtual urgent care is not intended for medical emergencies. If you believe you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I automatically get antibiotics or Tamiflu?

No. Antibiotics don't treat viral infections, and antiviral treatment isn't right for everyone. Treatment recommendations depend on your symptoms, medical history, available examination findings, and provider judgment.

How soon should I be seen if I think I have the flu?

Flu antivirals generally work best when started early, so it's a good idea to start a visit as soon as symptoms begin if you're concerned.

What if my symptoms are severe?

Significant trouble breathing, chest pain, bluish lips, confusion, or severe/worsening symptoms need emergency care — call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than starting a virtual visit.
